Caution from the Mods

We've been getting a lot of new members lately, so we want to issue a caution to all of you, but especially to those of you who may be younger than 21 and less familiar with safety issues.

We have a rule that people with less than 30 posts can't sell on our board. One reason that we have that rule is so that we can get to know them a little before we trust them with our money and our addresses.

However, there are other ways on this board that we give away our identities and our addresses. We have secret sisters, and we have traveling dolls.

So we would like to caution you to be careful. Perhaps you might decide to not give your name or address to anyone that has been a member of our board for less than 3 months, or for less than 100 posts.

Another suggestion is that you might decide to not give your name or address to anyone, and just have things sent to you through your mother or father's office, or through a box number, or through another relative.

Another suggestion is that you might want to look at someone's most recent posts, in their profile, to see what kinds of things they usually post about, before you trust them with your name and address.

Thank you, Joy, for reminding members of these important precautions. It can't be emphasized enough that the internet is never 100% safe for anyone, not even our uber-moderated board.

Please be careful who you respond to, especially when it comes to new members that you don't know well.

I would also add my cautions here. We especially need to be careful about sharing personal information with people who start right off on our board with asking us to buy dolly items or trade dolls from their very beginnings on our board.

Having any of our members get hurt because they are too trusting of new members posting here, would be a very sad thing for all of us. [img]graemlins/rose.gif[/img]

Also be careful on the For Sale sticky, even if someone has a ton of posts; the board can't be held liable for if a deal goes bad. [img]redface.gif[/img] (Although eBay deals go bad too, and I don't think I've heard of many, if any, bad experiences on our sticky...just be cautious!)

One of the cautions on the Traveling Dolls Sticky, is that members under the age of 18 need to have their parents' permission to participate. This should extend to anything having to do with any exchange of information on this board or any other. If you are under 18, do not exchange personal information with any other member of this board - even if the other person is also under 18 - without your parents' permission. Let's face it, on a board like this where membership cannot be controlled, we don't really know if our members (young or old) are really who they say they are.

I don't want us to always be fearful of each other, I just want us to be safe. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I definitely agree with getting to know people before you give out your address. I'd been on the board for a few months before SS started or before I sent Kit-Kat out traveling.
